Just Landed: Marantz’s PM-12SE & SA-12SE

Once again, Marantz is inspiring with a special edition, and this time it is the models of the 12 series. On the one hand, the PM-12 stereo integrated amplifier, and on the other hand, the SACD SA-12 player with D/A converter was released in the Special Edition. As before, both are available in gold and black. We already have the top units in our shop and took a few snapshots when we arrived.

If you’re not yet familiar with the original SA-12 and PM-12 models, this may be because they were developed only for the Japanese market. Now we can all look forward to going there because the special edition is also available here. In this case, special edition means that the basic models have been raised one level higher by refining the components. This was also based on the success of the KI Ruby series that we already wrote in detail on.

The Integrated Amp PM-12SE

A toroidal transformer is the heart of the high-resolution preamplifier stage and is responsible for the exact sound of the PM-12SE. The precise sound is supported by a two-stage design that separates the power supplies from the preamplifier and power amplifiers. The result is a reduction in noise. Connections for CD and phono are provided as a matter of course, and thanks to its load-independent frequency response, the model can operate any speaker.

The SA-12SE SACD Player With D/A Converter

Of course, the SA-12SE can playback not only SACD/CD, but also audio data from CDs and DVDs, and its asynchronous USB input allows high-resolution audio files to be played back. As with the PM-12SE, there is a separation between USB and optical and coaxial digital inputs. Here too, interference is to be prevented. The toroidal transformer is also obligatory on this model, and the icing on the cake is probably the dedicated headphone amplifier.
