Built according to the strict guidelines of the PurePath Class A design and equipped with a strictly symmetrical layout, it is able to guarantee extremely sensitive and dynamic pre-amplification of incoming signals in order to send them on to a power amplifier in the best possible quality.

Other features of the No.5206 preamplifier include a Class A headphone circuit for optimum sound quality in conjunction with high-quality headphones, a pass-thru mode for home cinema processors, a high-pass subwoofer filter (Class A) and the option of control via Mark Levinson's own app. The preamplifier has an MQA decoder and a Bluetooth audio input including compatibility with aptX.

To ensure the best possible signal processing and conversion of digital signals, the No.5206 has a Mark Levinson Precision Link II DAC system, which uses an ESS Sabre Pro 32-bit DAC as the actual D/A converter. Six digital audio inputs are available: One AES/EBU, 2 x optical, 2 x coaxial and an asynchronous USB connection. The latter enables signal transmissions of up to 384 kHz/32-bit (PCM) or up to 11.2 MHz (DSD).
