SACD
The SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) was introduced by Philips and Sony in 1999. Among other things, it offers the possibility of storing audio data in a higher resolution than on a conventional CD, and also uses a different encoding method (DSD). In the end, SACD was never able to establish itself on a broad scale. Since there are now other ways of playing back high-resolution music data (computers, network players, etc.), the SACD is technically outdated to a certain extent. Nevertheless, there is still interest in the format and, of course, hi-fi components that can play SACDs.
