Sonus Faber: ‘Made in Italy’ Craftmenship

After we announced last week the arrival of McIntosh in our assortment, we are doubly pleased with the unique, Italian manufacturer Sonus Faber to offer another HiFi delight find a home in Berlin.

Founded in Arcugnano in northeastern Italy, Sonus Faber has been manufacturing floorstanding and compact loudspeakers by hand since 1983. As of now, selected products of the Lumina, Sonetto as well as the Olympica Nova series are ready in our demonstration. In the following, we briefly introduce the series.

Lumina
The Lumina Collection is Sonus Faber’s entry-level series. The combination of its three model series offers a balanced solution for both lovers of classic stereo systems and people looking for a special home cinema configuration at a reasonable price. The use of simple angular shapes draws particular attention to the quality of the materials used, which, as with all Sonus Faber products, are of high quality. For all its modesty, the Lumina series already delivers great sonic performance.

Lumina I and II, as the most compact passive high-end speakers of the manufacturer, can be used particularly well in small rooms. In addition to being used as an element of a stereo pair, they are also excellent as the side or rear channel of a home theater configuration. The floor-standing models, the compact Lumina III and the larger Lumina V each offer powerful distortion-free sound. Especially due to their presence in the midrange, they cut a fine figure in the brilliant reproduction of dialog in movies as well as games. They are particularly suitable for use in medium-sized rooms. Lumina Center harmonizes stylistically as well as harmoniously with the other models in the series and is also an excellent addition to any multi-channel setup.

Sonetto
The models of the Sonetto series express the expertise accumulated in over forty years of Sonus Faber’s history. Consisting of 8 elements, the series offers solutions for just about any environmental situation. Processing techniques based on the tradition of violin making are reflected in the natural reproduction of the sound, allowing for an unparalleled listening experience.

The Sonetto VIII is the most powerful three-way speaker in the range. Using its three woofers, it still achieves even the deepest bass at the highest level. The smaller Sonetto V floor 3-way speaker is characterized by its intense, lively timbre and does particularly well in larger rooms. Design and innovation are harmoniously combined in the proud yet slender Sonetto III speaker. The Sonetto I and Sonetto II bookshelf speakers stand out with their powerful mid-woofer. Due to the special technology of the widely radiating reflex duct, they are able to fill the listening room with their sound despite their format. Sonetto Center II, as a central channel with its two powerful woofers, enhances any home theater with the latest technology. Sonetto Center I is also a powerful center channel only of more space-saving dimensions. The two-way speaker Sonetto Wall guarantees an optimal sound output in any room with a small footprint and thus completes your home theater equipment.

Olympica Nova
This series is the company’s flagship series. In it, the six-year period of evolution since the first Olympica edition was issued stands out clearly. While preserving the very elements that made it unique, it has been enriched with the most advanced technologies and is brimming with ingenuity. In short, it’s where tradition meets innovation. Among other things, the famous string cover, intended as a tribute to stringed instruments, has been retained, as well as the asymmetrical cabinet shape of the floor-standing speakers. In this original design concept, a spiral-shaped reflex port forms a single unit with the walls of the cabinet instead of acting as a separate element.

The Olympica Nova V represents the flagship of the collection. It unites Sonus Faber’s pursuit of the most pristine sound. Even reproducing the lowest frequencies is no challenge for it, thanks to its three woofers. Olympica Nova III comes across as slim and elegant. It offers excellent performance and clarity with tangible spatiality. The smallest floorstanding speaker in the Olympica Nova II collection combines the thoughtful features of its larger siblings in a smaller format. Olympica Nova I cuts a very fine figure as the collection’s 2-way speaker, both mounted on the product’s own stand and on the shelf. As an absolute novelty, the Olympica Nova Wall completes the collection. Thanks to the included wall bracket, the wall speaker can be mounted without much effort. Olympic Nova Center I is the most compact center speaker in the collection and offers exceptional sound purity. The Nova Center II’s natural and defined sound performance perfectly complements the larger speakers in the series.
