Technical Details
Because the new LG is an 8K television, the picture promises a breathtakingly high resolution. A brief digression: In order to be able to make a statement about the authenticity of the 8K resolution, a measuring method was developed that distinguishes adjacent pixels from each other. This method is called contrast modulation and states that the value of the display must be at least 25 % (image) or 50 % (text). According to LG, this value for the SM9900 is in the high 80 % range and is, therefore, a true 8K resolution.
The contrast values are also impressive, as the display has full array dimming. The TV’s wide viewing angle is also remarkable. Even if you look at the screen at an angle, you can still see the picture with its colour depth very well. By the way, the colours are absolutely impressive due to NanoCell technology. LG works with just 1nm nanoparticles, thanks to which the colours are reproduced realistically.
HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and HDR are available in the repertoire of the SM9900, so that there is an appealing selection of different standards. The icing on the cake is upscaling, with which UHD and Full-HD are calculated for best picture results.
Connection Options
Although the back of the NanoCell has been kept so clean, the TV impresses with a wide range of connection options: Four HDMI inputs, three USB slots, a Ci+ slot, a digital optical audio output, a network jack and a 3.5 mm headphone output on top. In addition, the TV shines with a dual tuner, which ensures that you can record one program to a USB storage medium while watching another.
If that’s not enough for you, you can look forward to the wireless and multiroom possibilities of Apple AirPlay 2, WLAN and Bluetooth 5.0. Finally, HbbTV is also included.
Conclusion
Finally, it should be mentioned that the Dolby Atmos capable speaker system is a true highlight of the television, promising spatial sound. Coupled with the harmonious picture, the SM9900 PLA is, therefore, a great TV that should fulfil the wishes of all film and TV fans.
